Send Your Photo(s)

I work from photos (ideally digital, as high resolution as possible). To help with this, I will send you tips for taking photos.

I realise that sometimes portraits can be memorial portraits and that good quality photos may not be available. I’m really happy to work with the photo(s) you have but please be aware that a lower quality image will result in a less detailed portrait.

Book Your Slot

I ask for a 50% booking fee to secure your pet portrait slot, with the balance payable on completion. Payment can either be made by bank transfer or, if you prefer, I can arrange payment via my website. Once the booking fee has been paid, I will let you know when you can expect your portrait. You are free to cancel at any point before I start work on your portrait and I will refund the booking fee less 10%). For portraits costing £200 or more I'm really happy to offer staged payments.

Portrait in Progress

I will start working on your portrait. I use professional lightfast coloured pencils and a variety of surfaces (pastelmat, drafting film or hot pressed paper).

Approval

Once the portrait is complete, I will send photos for your approval. Once approved the balance will be due, together with the delivery charge, prior to your portrait being sent.

Portraits are supplied with a single mount and backing board and, whilst ready for framing on receipt, I would recommend you take the portrait to a professional framer.

Lead times – at the time of booking your slot I will be able to give you an idea of the expected completion date.

For portraits costing £200 or more I'm really happy to offer staged payments. Please contact me for details.

UK Delivery

I currently only send to the UK.

Your portrait will be well packaged and will be sent via Royal Mail tracked and signed for service.

The delivery charge is £7.50, unless you would like to collect.

Here's how it works .......................

Coloured pencils are a slow medium to work with and I've had to learn to be patient, slowly building up the layers to create richness - a 'black' animal is never just black!

Gift Certificates

I also offer Gift Certificates. Further details can be found in my shop.

Prices will be reviewed on 1st January 2025. Commissions booked in before 1st December 2024 for completion during January will be at the rates shown above.

Current Turnaround Time: mid-January 2025

Why have a portrait created when you can have a photo printed?

I've been asked this on more than one occasion! Our pets share our lives for such a short period of time and for many of us, they are family. Of course, our phones are full of photos of our pets but a specially chosen photo without the background 'clutter' is a lovely way to create a lasting memory of a beloved pet. For me, I take such enjoyment in creating a drawing and I always start with the eyes. It may be a cliche but the eyes really are the window to the soul and a drawing somehow manages to capture something a photo often can't. In the case of a memorial portrait, this is even more special.
